First-Generation College Students

First in the Pack welcomes and supports first-generation college students throughout their time at NC State.

Call to Action

What is First in the Pack?

First in the Pack is a university-wide initiative geared toward connecting first-generation college students with campus resources, faculty and staff, and other students at NC State to help them hone the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in college.

How do I know if I’m a first-generation student?

First-generation college students are any students whose parents did not complete a four-year college degree.  Recognizing that there are challenges in the transition to the college environment, First in the Pack aims to support first-generation college students during their time on campus through sharing information, coordinating programs, and advocating for their strength and resilience.

Who can be First in the Pack?

Any NC State student who identifies as a first-generation college student is automatically considered a member of the FITP program and is welcome to participate in all of the available resources/events.
